This weekend has been a rough one for firefighters from Rose
Hill. After fighting two grass fires, they found out one of
their own was in critical condition. Jason Johnson, 28, died
Saturday evening from an unknown medical condition.
His wife, Jennifer, remembers a husband who never stopped talking
about the fire department and never went anywhere without wearing
one of his Butler County Fire District #3 T-shirts.
Johnson also leaves behind a 4-year-old son, Trevor.
Jennifer said she's praying their son doesn't forget his dad.
"This morning, the first things out of his mouth were, Is God
bringing Daddy back?"
District #3 Chief Dan Armstrong decided to give
Johnson's helmet to Jennifer and retire his firefighter number,
367.
Johnson's family plans to hold a visitation service
Wednesday night. The funeral is scheduled for Thursday morning
at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Derby.
Johnson and his wife were driving to get birthday
decorations for Trevor on Saturday afternoon. In Andover,
Jennifer says he took a large gasp, passed out, and never regained
consciousness.
